It wasn’t too difficult to find Bosley Brown at the bustling Bohemian Café. He made his way around the retro-chic caffeine joint as if he owned the place.

He leaned comfortably against the food counter, grabbing his turkey club sandwich. Bosley knows the café owner.

After some small talk, he made one of the green armchairs near the front of the establishment his resting spot, picking up one of the books offered on the coffee table.

“Jack Kerouac,” he asked a bearded man sitting in the twin armchair next to his, “have you read it? Great book.”

It’s an old-school swagger of Motown cool –something not just a part of his personality, but also a part of his attire and music. While a dedicated way of life, there is more to Bosley than “playing it cool.” He’s a believer of sharing.

“I want to share my music with people and make them feel good,” he said. “If we can make you feel good and dance, then we’ve done our job.”

He placed Kerouac’s “On the Road” back on the table and reached for his sandwich. Before a first bite, he wiggled his sunglasses to the tip of his nose and looked up, “It’s a turkey club. You want some?”

Describe your style. Retro-Hep Beat Music. Young American Dance Music.

What can’t you live without? Soul.

You’d never be caught in… a bank vault.

Where do you like to shop? Sixteen Tons in Hampden, Stacy Adams, and um, Goodwill? And Amazon.

Who/what inspires your style? Gene Kelly, Johnny Mercer, Marvin Gaye, Tom Waits, James Brown, and the Beatles.

Thoughts on your city’s style: Ain’t no town like Bohtown.

Your musical inspirations? Too many to name –basically American music after 1920.

Let’s get one thing straight…Bosley is not the name of the band. Bosley is the name of the character, but the band contributes to the sound and style of my music wholly. My music would be merely dreams without them. They’re becoming family. The band doesn’t have a name, but is sometimes called the ‘Beautiful Band’ or the ‘Bosley Brown Rhythm Review’. This band was founded by divine intervention. They found me. Each member was lead to my doorstep by mystical visions and the whole thing landed in my lap fully formed and perfect –a gift from the heavens.

What’s coming up for you? I’m releasing a new album hopefully called The Dirty Dogs Radio Show, in two parts. The first part should be out this summer, I hope. It’s bad. It’s very, very bad. Watch out!

One more thing… I once 80’s break-dance battled Terrell Suggs. I let him win.

    • I hear ya! Unfortunately, the sax player and drummer couldn’t make it to the shoot, which had been rescheduled a number of times. But, there’s been talks of another shoot after the Rams Head Live! show, later in May. So there will be more photos to come, for sure!
